Much has been written about Twitter’s capacity to break news.  The Hudson River plane landing is one prominent example.  The death of Osama Bin Laden nows joins the pantheon of news broken on Twitter. Check out Abbottabad resident Sohaib Athair’s real-time coverage of the historic raid:

Athair is no professional journalist. He’s a programmer and consultant who happened to live down the street from history. The lesson for the business community is that citizen journalism has arrived and is not going away. The everyday citizen – your customer, your investor, the neighbor who lives behind your manufacturing plant — has the capacity to shape public opinion any time your company falls short of his or her expectations.  Have you considered how to mitigate such content when it’s published?
