How GE uses Adsense to protect its reputation

April 21, 2011

We’ve blogged before about advertising on the Google network to deliver a targeted message instantaneously when your company is under the gun.  Here’s an example of how it’s done. Below is an ad from General Electric that appeared underneath my Gmail account:

Adsense: one arrow in GEs persuasion campaign

After a drumbeat of bad press painted General Electric as a tax-dodger, the Fortune 100 turned to Google’s Adsense network to circumvent the press and deliver its side of the tax story straight to the public.  The beauty of Adsense is that it channels your ads to users who will find it most relevant, making it both targeted and cost-effective. Nice job, GE.
